24-hour shuttle for heart unit

MORPETH badminton players will push their bodies to the limit tomorrow (Saturday) to raise money for a worthy cause.

About 30 junior and senior members of the Riverside Leisure Centre Badminton Club are doing a 24-hour badminton-a-thon from 9am in aid of the children’s heart unit at the Freeman Hospital, in Newcastle. All those taking part will do a few two-hour slots.

The unit was chosen because one of the players, Euan Russell, had an operation there a year ago and he wanted to do something to support the doctors and staff who looked after him so well.

Members of the public can give donations on the day or call the leisure centre on 01670 514665 to make an arrangement.
