YOUNG would-be Olympians will have a chance to try out a wide range of events in three free summer sessions at Morpeth’s new athletics track.
The training days, run by Morpeth Harriers alongside Northumberland Athletics Network, will be held at the track, at King Edward VI School on Collingwood Lane, on Saturday and next Saturday and Sunday (August 18 and 19).
Aspiring athletes can try the long jump, high jump and hurdles at the first session on Saturday.
The following weekend there will be sprints, endurance running and more hurdles on the Saturday, with throwing events – shot put, javelin, discus and hammer throw – on the Sunday.
There may also be a pole vault session on the Sunday.
All sessions start at 10am prompt and finish around 12.45pm. For safety reasons, participants must be at least nine years old and 11 for the throwing events and pole vault.
The event is open to all members of the community – children do not need to be a member of an athletic club to participate.
