Tynemouth CC U13s v Morpeth CC U13s (Arrows)
An impressive fielding display helped Morpeth to secure an excellent victory at Tynemouth.
The visitors put the home side in after winning the toss and the opening batsmen started the match well, with five runs coming from the first over. However, Morpeth quickly adjusted their field positions to make scoring much more difficult.
Nathan Byatt bowled accurately and he was rewarded with two early wickets, one of them was partly down to an excellent catch by Matthew Dodds.
While Elliott Clark bowled a good line and length to concede only five runs from his four overs, Andrew Wilkinson did the damage with three wickets for 12 runs in four overs.
Ryan Hope bowled with much greater consistency as the home team tried to increase the run rate and he finished his four overs with one wicket for four runs.
The fielding remained at a very high standard throughout with Hope, Clark and Ross Charlton, making his debut, all saving certain fours with excellent diving stops.
Joe Briddon finished off the Tynemouth innings with impressive figures of one over for two wickets. The hosts scored 41 for nine.
Despite the odd error in shot selection, the batting was positive and after Ben Gascoigne was clean bowled, Clark and Byatt hit some impressive boundaries.
It is also their understanding and running between the wickets which ensures the scoreboard is always ticking over.
Morpeth reached their target of 42 during the ninth over, with Clark undefeated on 26 and Byatt on 15 not out.
