Morpeth I (116) v Seaton Burn I (118-6) Northumberland & Tyneside Senior League, Division A2
DESPITE a decent bowling performance, Morpeth were defeated on Saturday.
The home side batted first at their Longhirst Hall ground and were up against it when Stewart was bowled for seven and Poxton was caught on five. Then came a further blow when key batsmen Patel and Anderson were dismissed for 15 and 14 respectively.
Morpeth’s middle order showed some resistance. Tordoff (27) played some impressive strokes and put together a useful partnership with Thompson (20).
Once they were out, the other wickets fell quickly. Rose (13) was the only other man to make double figures as the hosts were dismissed for 116.
But the bowlers made sure it wasn’t going to be an easy run chase for Seaton Burn as their openers Kirkwood and Wright could only score one run between them. Essex and Bethell took the wickets and Patel and Hodgson took the catches.
Jennison (33) and Weldon (22) got the visitors up and running, although they were stopped in their tracks by Patel and Tordoff respectively.
Patel picked up another wicket and Rose also got in on the act, however Seaton Burn did manage to reach their winning target with four wickets to spare.
