Batting lets the side down in derby

Morpeth (68 all out) v Alnwick (158 all out) Northumberland & Tyneside Senior Cricket League Division A2

Morpeth lost at home to neighbours Alnwick on Saturday despite a decent bowling performance.

The visitors were put into bat after their opponents won the toss and elected to field in the final game of the season.

James Craigs took two early wickets and John Turnbull clean-bowled Green for 17. Craigs had Forrest (27) caught by Callum Lawn, a run-out followed and there was then a wicket for Harshil Patel.

Roxburgh (41) was in good nick and he had decent support from tailenders Lobb (22) and Kirkup (18) as the away side recovered a little to 158 all out.

Lawn claimed three scalps and Craigs (4-42) took another wicket. But they were both dismissed cheaply at the start of Morpeth’s innings and further wickets then tumbled.

Rick Jones did his best to get the hosts up and running and Adam Lawn (13) showed good fighting spirit, but the writing was on the wall when Lawn was bowled by Wright and Jones was trapped lbw by Stewart for 26.

Soon afterwards, Morpeth were all out for 68.
