Leadgate (221-8) v Ponteland (136 all out) Northumberland & Tyneside Senior League, Division A2

DESPITE an excellent bowling performance from Craig Moffat, Ponteland were defeated by the league leaders on Saturday.

Moffat’s first victim was Leadgate opener Robbie Hockaday, caught by Matt Darwood for a duck.

Iftikhar Fazal bowled Barnes for eight to put the visitors on top, but the hosts came back with three useful innings.

Paul Hockaday made 27, he was bowled by Moffat, and the crucial partnership was made by Greenwell and Richardson.

They both kept the scoreboard ticking and reached deserved half centuries, although they were dismissed before they could get to 100.

Greenwell (78) was caught by Jonathan Appleby off the bowling of James Ealey and Moffat found a gap to clean bowl Richardson for 69.

Moffat hit the stumps a further three times late on in the innings to finish with figures of six for 37 from 14 overs.

Leadgate were 221 for eight from their 50 overs, so it was a tough ask for Pont, but possible. However, they were facing an uphill battle when Wayne Ritzema was bowled for a duck and Darwood was caught on nine runs.

James Ritzema and Tom Seymour batted tidily to get the away side going until they were dismissed for 18 and 23 respectively. Will Urwin played some attacking shots but he was losing partners at regular intervals.

Ealey (13) was the only other player in the middle order to reach double figures and when Urwin was out caught for 44, Ponteland’s fate was sealed.

Moffat was the last man out as the visitors were dismissed for 136.

Greenwell was the pick of the Leadgate bowlers with six for 54 from 15 overs.
