A PAIR of brothers from Morpeth made their mark at the final event in the 2012 Royal Yachting Association (RYA) North Zone Team15 junior windsurfing season.

After an exciting event in sunshine and brisk winds, the home team of Wakefield-based Pugneys Pirates were crowned RYA North Zone Champions for the second year in succession.

There were good performances from all the teams taking part on the day, including Morpeth residents Leonardo and Gustavo Takiguchi who were racing for the Coquet Crushers.

Gustavo, 14, won the 4.5m fleet class and 12-year-old Leonardo was second in the 3.5m section.

Team15, which is now in its 11th year, is a RYA initiative set up to make windsurfing more accessible and appealing to youngsters at a grassroots level.

Fun and informal training sessions take place at T15 clubs across the country for kids up to the age of 15, which are run weekly by specialist RYA coaches.
