YEAR 4 children took part in an exciting ‘Badminton Olympics’ competition at Ponteland Leisure Centre.

Parents were invited to watch and there were 18 players taking part in both singles and doubles matches during the afternoon. There were many close matches and the total games won by the two top teams were equal, so a countback on points scored was needed.

Gold medals were won by the Darras Hall Rubies team of Rachel Bogan, Sam Burrin, Matthew Grant, William Shanks and Emma Renton.

Players with unbeaten records on the day were Jackson Banks and William Shanks from Darras Hall First School and Layla Spence of Ponteland First School.

Gold, silver and bronze medals were awarded by Adam Roberts – the Ponteland Leisure Centre manager.

The local badminton coach and organiser Phil Hall said that the standard of the players taking part was the highest he had seen among a group of Year 4 students.
