FOLLOWING a successful season in 2013, Mitford Cricket Club gained promotion into the West Tyne League First Division.

On the back of this achievement, the club has decided to place its second team into the Second Division of the same league.

This means that the club’s teams are playing at a higher standard and need both better facilities and an increase in playing members, especially junior and young-adult members.

It has been successful in obtaining funding to construct a new pavilion at the Mitford Park ground, which will be completed by mid March in time for the new season.

The club appreciates all the assistance from Mitford Parish Council, the Inspired Facilities Grant from the National Lottery, the work of George Bowman in the construction, Hope Construction and the many individuals and club members who have put time and effort into the project.

Secretary Joe Jackson said: “The club owes a considerable debt of gratitude to all of those who have supported the project.

“What we need to do now is use the inspiration of the new pavilion to encourage more people to join and work with the local schools and community to make the best use of the facilities at Mitford Cricket Club.”

He added that the club is holding indoor net practices at the Blue Flames indoor facility on the edge of Newcastle (Whitley Road) as of Monday, February 24, between 7pm and 8pm. New members are always welcome.
