Competition to help wounded soldiers

A GOLF competition is being held at Linden Hall Golf Club to support injured soldiers.

The North East Branch of ABF The Soldiers’ Charity is promoting the Annual Golf Meeting on Wednesday, September 11.

The day will provide the opportunity for civilian golfers to mix with military players and a chance to take part in an enjoyable day’s golf to raise money for the charity.

“With the Army heavily committed in Afghanistan, the needs of the charity are greater than ever and any support given therefore will be highly appreciated,” said an ABF spokesman.

The competition will be a four-player team event, with team and individual prizes, plus the Lynn Hall Memorial Trophy to be competed for by the military teams.

The team captains’ brief will be in the Stamfordham Suite at 10am, and the competition will open at 10.30am with a shotgun start.

This will allow teams to finish together and maximise the social and prize-giving opportunities of the event.

As entries will be limited to 22 teams, tee allocation will be on a first-come, closest-to-the-clubhouse basis, with the first and tenth tees available to the highest donation received.

Entry fee for teams of four is £200, which includes tea or coffee and a bacon sandwich on arrival, Halfway Hut refreshments, late lunch and prizes for the winners.

Contributions of raffle prizes, sponsorship of a hole or a donation are welcome.

Overnight accommodation is available at Linden Hall at discounted rates.
