HIGH quality golfing action returns to a course on the edge of Morpeth this week.
The EuroPro Tour at Longhirst Hall Golf Club is now the largest televised professional golf event in the North East and officials are hoping for good crowd numbers, especially as the event is taking place during the summer holidays.
Carl Nicholls will be aiming to do well on his home course and other players from Northumberland clubs taking part include Matty Webb (Bedlington) and Andy Scrimshaw (Close House).
The tournament started yesterday and rounds two and three will take place today and tomorrow. Once again it is free to attend.
Director of Golf at Longhirst, Graham Chambers, said: “These are the best conditions weather-wise that we’ve had to prepare the course for this event and after their practice rounds, the players told us that it’s in the best ever shape during our time hosting the competition.
“It has grown and grown each year and this time round we’ve stepped up the promotion for the tournament. We’ve also made the greens a bit quicker than in previous years and this should help the players to score well if they hit good shots into them.
“Hopefully, we will get a decent turnout from golf fans across Northumberland on all three days.”
