Defeat for firsts but victory for seconds

Annfield Plain (140-5) v Ponteland (139 all out) Northumberland & Tyneside Senior Cricket League, Division A1

Despite some decent individual performances, Ponteland I lost by five wickets away to Annfield Plain.

The visitors batted first and wickets kept falling as solid partnerships were beginning to take shape.

Tom Seymour scored 40 from 51 balls and Jonny Appleby and Dan Wright made 21 and 20 respectively, but the next highest score was 13 as Pont were dismissed for 139.

They had some hope when the home side was reduced to 93-5, with Ashley Parker (two), Liam Cosgrove (two) and Iftikhar Fazal taking the wickets. But Kileen (44 not out) and Robinson (18 not out) saw Annfield Plain home.

Ponteland II fared better at home to their Annfield Plain counterparts. Andy Denyer was the pick of the Pont bowlers (3-17) as the away side scored 103 for eight off 25 overs in a match reduced by rain.

The hosts reached their victory target for the loss of five wickets, mainly thanks to Ryan Gerrard (30), Parag Chauhan (25) and Tom Common (21).

Morpeth I’s game away to Greenside I in division A2 was abandoned by rain with the hosts on 46-0.
