Ashington Rugby Cricket Club (168 all out) v Ulgham (65 all out) Northumberland Cricket League, Division One
ULGHAM’S relegation fears were confirmed on Saturday as they slumped to yet another defeat.
Knowing even a win might not be enough if other results went against them, the visitors won the toss and elected to field.
They got off to a good start when a great return throw from Turnbull resulted in the run out of opener Maddison in the third over with 10 on the board.
Harwood and Hardy added 81 in 22 overs to the drinks break before Skinner removed the latter.
A collapse by Ashington saw them slump to 133 for nine, but a last wicket stand by Milburn and Elliott added 25 to leave the home side all out in the 49th over.
Campbell, with five for 17, Moore, with two for 52, and Skinner, with two for 38, were the pick of the bowling.
The Ulgham reply got off to a bad start when Campbell was harshly adjudged LBW with 0 on the board.
From there things went downhill quickly, with only Tait (22) and Skinner (19) putting up any kind of resistance, and they were finally bowled out in the 43rd over for 65.
The second half of the season has been nothing short of disastrous for Ulgham and the loss of bowlers Herne, Charlton and Moore with injuries at crucial times has not helped the cause.
The club must now regroup over the winter and with the addition of new personnel and more commitment must launch a challenge for promotion at the first attempt next season.
