Eight wicket defeat for Morpeth 1sts

Morpeth 1sts went down by eight wickets when they travelled to face Ryton 1sts in the Northumberland and Tyneside Senior League on Saturday.

Morpeth batted first and a superb 94 from James Sander, who was backed up with 39 from Adam Lawn and 26 from Sam Flett, helped the visitors to a decent score of 223-7 in their 50 overs.

David Howarth took 3-60 for Ryton, who in reply saw opener Mo Ali hit his fourth century of the season, finishing on 115.

J O’Neil also hit 57 as Ryton hit 227-2 inside 48 overs.

Morpeth 2nds had a six wicket win over Annfield Plain 2nds.

Opener Jonathan Dodds hit 101 as the home side posted 191, being bowled out in the 45th over.

Patrick Druce claimed 5-28 for Morpeth, who then recorded 192-4 in less than 39 overs with Joe Carrick on 48, Wahib Barakat on 46, Druce on 39 not out and Stuart Spiers on 35 not out.

Ponteland 1sts had a three wicket win away to Percy Main 1sts.

David Anderson top scored with 55 as Percy Main opened with 166, Iftikhar Fazal claiming 4-27 for the visitors.

In reply, Ponteland made 168-7 in 48 overs with Ben Harris hitting 5-1.

Anderson also enjoyed a good spell with the ball, taking 4-25.

Ponteland 2nds won by 71 runs in the reverse fixture.

John Lumb opened with 83 as Ponteland posted 191-6 in their 45 overs.

Stephen Knight hit 43 for Percy Main, but they were reduced to 120 all out with Duncan McGregor taking 5-35.

Blagdon Park had a narrow six run home win over Berwick in the Northumberland Premier League.

David Simpson hit 27 not out and Sam Eyres 24 as Blagdon posted 136-8 in their 50 overs. Sean Wales took 3-62 with Steven Emery and Nalinda Premchandra claiming two wickets apiece.

In reply, Berwick saw Premchandra open up with 34 with Wales and Martin Hush both hitting 18, but with Paul Johnson taking 4-22 they fell short at 130 all out in the 41st over.

Also in the Premier League, Kirkley lost by 63 runs away to Ashington.

Adam Peacock hit 124 for Ashington as they posted a big score of 250-7.

Andrew Storey hit 94 in reply for Kirkley, but they were all out for 197 with Cory Milburn taking 5-52.

Stobswood 2nds (72) lost by eight wickets to Corbridge in Division 2.

Kirkley 2nds had a 62-run home win over Ulgham 2nds in Northumberland League 3.

Kirkley put on 186-9 in 38 overs with Andrew North on 45 and Alan Thompson and Craig Moore both on 32. Richard Lee took 3-42 with three others taking two apiece.

In reply, Ulgham managed 124-7 in their 40 overs with Alan Hynd top scoring on 31. Kieran Douse took 3-22 for the home side.
