Entries are now open for Burgham International Horse Trials (July 27-29) – Northumberland’s premier equestrian event.
Burgham runs a complete range of affiliated eventing classes: CIC3*, CIC2* and CIC* international classes, and national competitions from BE90 to Open Intermediate, catering for the entire eventing community from the very top riders in the world to amateurs riding at grassroots level.
Burgham’s 2017 CIC3* must boast the best form of any international competition in the world – the winners, Laura Collett and Mr Bass, were second last week on their CCI4* debut at Luhmühlen.
World number one Oliver Townend finished second at Burgham on Cooley Master Class, who won the Kentucky CCI4* in April on his first attempt at the highest level of competition in the sport, and Oliver was also third on Cooley SRS – second at his first CCI4*, Badminton, this spring.
All three horses are likely to be in the running for a spot on the British team at the World Equestrian Games this September.
The jumping phases of Burgham’s international classes take place on Sunday, July 29, with the national classes taking centre stage on Saturday, July 28.
On Friday, July 27, Burgham hosts Dubarry Burghley Young Event Horse classes and the dressage phase of the international sections commences.
There is also a British Showjumping Category 2 show at Burgham on Sunday.
Other attractions include lots of children’s entertainment, a variety of carefully selected locally produced food options, a licenced bar and great shopping.
Event director Martyn Johnson said: “This is Burgham’s fifth year as an international event and it has become an important part of the eventing calendar, both locally and nationally.
“The UK’s top riders come in force.”
