MORPETH teaching professional David Clark retained the Rocar Moores and Copley Fixby Classic title at Huddersfield, then attributed his success to failure in the European Tour School qualifier.
Last year, he prevailed after a five-man play-off, but this time he showed a clean pair of heels to the chasing pack to win by two shots from Ringway-attached David Brunton.
The PGA North Region Order of Merit ranking competition was played in pro-am format, which Clark admitted also helped him to overcome the disappointment of falling at the Tour School hurdle at his seventh attempt.
“I made a steady start to the Tour School event, but finished badly and missed by half a dozen shots,” he said after adding a 69 to his opening 67 for six-under-par in total.
“I was depressed for a few days, but not trying too hard playing in this event seemed to relax me.
“My team members were all from Morpeth and they cheered me up. I also like the course.”
Clark overcame a wobble when he bogeyed the 16th in his second round, making sure with a birdie on the home green which he eagled the day before.
