Tynedale (182 for 5) v Ponteland (180 for 9) Northumberland & Tyneside Senior League, Division A1
Ponteland Cricket Club’s first team’s bad start to the season continued on Saturday.
The visitors won the toss and elected to bat. James Whiteley was bowled for just five, but then Wayne Ritzema (30) and James Davidson (23) put together a useful partnership.
Daniel Wright (30), Niall Penfold (28) and John Lumb (17) also played some decent shots during the innings. However, none of them could go on to make a big score and when their innings finished after 45 overs, Pont were 180 for nine.
Tynedale’s openers got their side off to a solid start. There was hope for Ponteland when Crichton was bowled by Duncan McGregor and Meadows (38) was caught by Ashley Parker off the bowling of David Waters.
But the hosts did enough to reach their victory target thanks to contributions from Fellowes (35 not out), Rainford (28), Raglan (22) and Barnes (20 not out).
McGregor picked up another wicket and Ian Smart claimed two scalps.
The five-wicket defeat leaves Pont, who are at home to Consett on Saturday, second bottom in the table.
