THE Northumberland Lightning team will be holding a rookie open day this Sunday.
The club is looking for players, coaches, people to help with photography and publicity and general helpers as it continues to make good progress since launching in November 2012.
It has a playing staff that are 90 per cent rookies and more and more new faces join every week to help the club build its reputation in the region.
During the rookie open day at Ashington Rugby Club, individuals will get to experience multiple facets of the game, giving each player the chance to show their skills in multiple positions.
American Football allows people of all shapes and sizes to play – if you are five foot tall or 300 pounds, there is a position for you at the club.
Northumberland Lightning is entering an important year as it prepares to enter the associate process to join the British American Football Association National Leagues. The club competed twice in 2013, playing the Walney Terriers and Durham Saints in joint scrimmages, and it has a number of fixtures lined up for 2014.
With seven British American Football Coaches Association accredited coaches at the club, those who join will receive instructions and advice from nationally qualified coaching staff.
It also caters for those who wish to play non-contact football with the Northumberland Thunder flag team and is interested to hear from women who are interested in playing for a women’s team.
If you would like to attend the rookie open day, bring a pair of football boots, a gum shield and some water along to the event, which will take place between 9am and noon. For further details, e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org
