Lanchester (208-5) v Morpeth (205-8) Northumberland & Tyneside Senior Cricket League, Division A1

MORPETH’S winning run came to an end in a tight match at Lanchester.

The visitors won the toss and decided to bat. It was a similar story for the top five batsmen as they all got into double figures but none of them could go on to make a big score.

Jonny Craigs made 31 before being bowled by Mirza and James Sander, Ben Maxted and Charles Anderson were all dismissed when in the 20s.

Andrew Poxton (40) looked the most likely to get to 50 as he mixed some great attacking strokes with controlled shots.

Frustratingly, it was a run out that dismissed him.

Michael Craigs and Gary Christie scored 15 and 18 respectively as Morpeth finished on 205 for eight.

Lanchester made a good start in reply and Jonny Craigs took an important wicket when he caught and bowled Underwood, who scored 32 off 32 balls.

Pearson edged a Jack Palmer delivery to wicketkeeper Maxted to be out for 18, but once Blackaby played himself in he went on to make the match-winning innings of 82 not out.

Three more batsmen were dismissed, but they all held up one end while Blackaby did the damage at the other. Lanchester reached their target with ten balls to spare to win by five wickets.

Paul Jackson and Christie took a wicket each and Jonny Craigs got another.
