Green and golds in red-hot form

Preston Ladies I 2 Morpeth Ladies I 3 North Hockey League, Division One

GOOD attacking and defensive play gave Morpeth Ladies an important three points at Preston.

Early on, some strong passing through midfield and good link-up play between Hagan and Corbett upfront saw numerous breaks of attack, which eventually ended in a penalty-corner.

A great first strike by Hagan at the top of the circle hit the backboard, allowing the visitors to take the lead.

With Morpeth maintaining a high press, the Preston players grew increasingly frustrated with some bad stick tackling, resulting in the first of what was to be many yellow cards for the home side.

Preston defended well and made some attacks of their own, but Morpeth increased their lead just before half-time after winning a penalty-corner.

Emma Cockburn was unable to get a first strike on the ball and following some skilful play slipped the ball to Bowler, who managed to knock the ball in mid-air with her reverse stick into the goal.

Preston changed formation for the start of the second half and got a goal back from a penalty corner, but Morpeth made it 3-1 when Pollock slotted the ball past the keeper from a difficult angle on the left.

A Morpeth own-goal gave Preston hope, however the green and gold held their nerve and put together some good passages of play as they comfortably held on for victory.
