Morpeth Harriers and house building firm Linden Homes have agreed a new sponsorship deal.
There are three major parts to the arrangement.
The business will sponsor the club’s popular 11 kilometre race on New Year’s Day – the successor to the famous Morpeth to Newcastle Road Race, which sadly was discontinued after 100 years of existence.
It involves sponsorship of the club’s own road racing championships, which include races for 13 separate categories. They will take place between August and October, together with the presentation evening at which athletes will receive their championship trophies and medals, along with a variety of other club awards.
It will also enable the club to resume its Young Athlete of the Month competition, at the end of which three of the 12 monthly winners will be selected to receive vouchers for athletics equipment as Young Athletes of the Year.
On behalf of Linden Homes, Kate Brooks said: “We know that Morpeth Harriers is one of the top athletics clubs in the country and it is committed to developing the young athletes of the area.
“We are delighted to be able to support them.”
Morpeth Harriers secretary Mike Bateman said: “Linden Homes will be very active in building homes in the area (at the former St George’s Hospital site) and we are very pleased that it has agreed to help us in also building up the strength and popularity of athletics locally.”
