Benwell & Walbottle (64 all out) v Ponteland (65-2) Northumberland & Tyneside Senior League, Division A2
A FANTASTIC bowling display by Ponteland resulted in a comfortable victory.
Benwell & Walbottle could not handle Howard Wright in particular, who finished with very impressive figures of six wickets for only 19 runs in 15 overs.
After making a solid start, the home side were in trouble when Anderson was caught by wicketkeeper Dan Wright off the bowling of John Gardner for four and Howard Wright took his first two wickets to leave them 14 for three.
After a small recovery, Raza was his next victim when he was trapped lbw. Howard Wright soon reached five-for when Reed was caught by Stuart Taylor and Dan Wright stumped Denehy.
Wayne Ritzema joined in the party when he trapped Smith lbw and he then caught the home side’s top scorer Birrell (who made only 12) to give Howard Wright his sixth wicket.
And when Ritzema dismissed the final two batsmen, Benwell & Walbottle were facing an extremely difficult task as they were all out for 64.
They made an early breakthrough when James Ritzema was bowled for just one run.
But Wayne Ritzema (28) and Matt Darwood (24 not out) played solid, sensible cricket to take the visitors close to the winning target.
Tom Seymour came in once the other Ritzema was caught and was two not out as Ponteland won by eight wickets.
This victory keeps the side in third place, hot on the heels of the top two.
