THE Northumberland Ladies team arrived home from Lancashire exhausted but happy with the best result in County Match Week since 1999.
The players and support were upbeat and ready to take on the challenge that the windy conditions and talented competitors threw at them.
And they finished fourth after winning two matches and losing three – the hosts ended up winning the competition.
Julie Ross of Whitley Bay Golf Club, who first played for Northumberland in 1998, had an outstanding week by winning eight of the 10 games played. This put her tally of points won since she first played to 52.5.
Ponteland Golf Club member Ami Storey, the reigning Northumberland champion, also did well and she won 3.5 points.
The other team members who travelled to Lancashire were: Alyssa Balding, Parklands; Nicola Haynes, Gosforth Park Ladies; Kelly McNulty, Whitley Bay; Sarah Phillips, Gosforth (Bridle Path); Lauren Smith, Arcot Hall; Samantha Taylor, Parklands.
The support team was as follows: Team Manager Angela Rumney, Ponteland; Vice Captain Irene Noble, Westerhope; Captain Heather Stonebank, Parklands.
Although the county team was playing almost 200 miles away, a decent number of supporters – The Red Army – were out in force by Wednesday.
With the wealth of talent coming through the junior section, it is hoped that Northumberland can do even better in 2012 when the event is held in Yorkshire.
