SUMMER sessions at Carlisle Park have been hailed a success by Morpeth Tennis Club.

It worked together with Blyth Valley Arts and Leisure to put on the lessons, aimed at finding new players and getting people who used to play tennis back into the sport.

On the final day, a tournament was held, which was won by Elena Baughman Saunders. Alistair Lawson was the runner-up.

Prizes of free membership and half-price membership to the club were given out to four players deemed to have the most budding talent and the most interest in continuing to play tennis.

Club Chairwoman Pippa Hawes said: “We had a good attendance for all of these sessions and as many of those coming along were new to us, they were definitely worthwhile.”
