THE Northumberland Lightning American Football team is now at its new home of Ashington Rugby Club, with practices taking place on Sundays between 9am and 1pm.
After sorting out a place to train, the club is stepping up its recruitment drive as it searches for more players and coaches.
Players can join the senior team (over 19), youth and junior teams (under 19) and the Lightning are also putting together a women’s team. Among those welcome are rugby players who want to try something new in the off-season.
Newly elected club Chairman Stuart Dick said: “The rapid growth of the club has been outstanding.
“I originally set up the club with the aim of training by the end of 2013, but with so much interest we began training in late 2012, a month after the club was founded.
“Last week, we appointed our inaugural committee at our first Annual General Meeting and we have big plans for the club. But to continue our progress we need more players, coaches and helpers.
“Anyone is welcome at the Lightning and will be greeted by a nice bunch of people.”
