Little action during wet weekend

MOST of the games involving sides from Northumberland on Saturday were cancelled or abandoned because of heavy rain.

One team that managed to beat the showers was Stobswood Welfare.

In the Northumberland Cricket League, Division One, they reduced Whitley Bay to just 55 in their innings. Daniel Watson (three), Michael Beverley (two) and Ian Watson (two) were among the wicket takers.

Stobswood reached their victory target for the loss of three wickets. Ian Watson (21 not out) and Karl Watson (15) were their top scorers.

The Welfare are now up to fourth position in the table with 317 points. They are at home to Bomarsund on Saturday (1pm start).
