Mitford edge into VP cup final

Mitford (139-7) v Warkworth II (138 all out) Alnwick and District Cricket League: Vice President’s Cup Semi Finals

MITFORD reached the final of the Vice President’s Cup but they were made to sweat for it.

The home side’s bowlers performed very well as Warkworth II were dismissed for just 138.

Kieran Little bowled both visiting openers and took two middle order wickets, including dangerman Adam Spoors for 20, to finish with figures of four for 18.

David Wigham and Matthew Lees took two wickets each and Nick Gaynor and Matthew Ellinor pitched in with one apiece.

Stephan Hunt and Ellinor got off to a decent start in reply until they were both dismissed for 18.

A middle order wobble kept Warkworth in it, but Jonny Lees kept his head and Wigham scored 12 useful runs alongside him.

Gaynor then scored a crucial knock of 22 to put Mitford in sight of victory and soon after his dismissal they reached their target with three wickets to spare.

Lees finished on 28 not out and Little was three not out.
