Mitford sit at the summit after fine show

Berwick II (148-9) v Mitford (200-6) Alnwick and District League

A GOOD all-round team performance enabled Mitford to stay top of the table.

The visitors batted first and they made a good start as openers Mark Parrish and Matthew Ellinor put on a decent stand.

Parrish hit a couple of boundaries and was looking set for a big score until he was trapped lbw for 26.

Ellinor was looking in great nick, but there was concern among the Mitford faithful when Terry Dunn and Alex Davies were both dismissed cheaply.

Thankfully, he found decent support from Jonny Lees (18), Matthew Lees (14) and later Richard Brown, who ended up 14 not out.

Ellinor ran out of time to hit a century, as he was unbeaten on 91 when the away side finished their 45 overs on 200 for six.

Openers Wakenshaw and Hush made a solid start in reply for Berwick.

But Mitford stayed patient and Brown dismissed the pair for 28 and 25 respectively. He then took a further wicket to give his side another boost.

Thompson (28) was the next man to get into double figures and the turning point came when he was out – stumped by Jonny Lees off the bowling of Dunn.

There was a middle order and tail end collapse, with Ellinor getting two wickets and Colin Crowe and Matthew Lees picking up one apiece. McCreath was 33 not out, but Berwick were well short as they ended their 45 overs on 148 for nine.
