Tynedale I (152-3) v Ponteland I (151-8) Northumberland & Tyneside Senior Cricket League, Division A1

A poor batting display proved costly as Ponteland I suffered an away defeat.

Tynedale won the toss and decided to field. They made a good start when Pont opener Ed Common was dismissed for three.

The visitors lost their second wicket with the score on 25. They did steady the ship, but the Tynedale bowlers were not giving many runs away and after playing themselves in, Wayne Ritzema (40) and Jonny Appleby (31) were out before they could make a really significant score.

An entertaining knock from Iftikhar Fazal (33 from 33 balls) gave Ponteland a little bit of hope as they ended their innings on 151-8.

But Meadows was in fine form for the hosts and he played a range of excellent attacking shots. He scored 88 as Tynedale reached their victory target for the loss of just three wickets.

Liam Cosgrove took two of them and Mark Turnbull got the other.

Things went much better for Ponteland II as they recorded a win at home to their Tynedale counterparts.

James Ealey played a commanding innings and he finished on 94 not out.

He received decent support from Tom Common (30), John Gardner (29) and Parag Chauhan (24) as Pont scored 217 for five from their 45 overs.

Tynedale II were on the back foot when Clark was caught by Ian Smart off the bowling of Mark Waters for a duck.

Smart, Gardner and Andy Denyer each picked up a wicket and the away side were struggling on 111-4, but they responded well and Holt and Percival put together a useful partnership.

Ponteland held their nerve and Waters dismissed Holt caught and bowled for 82. They went on to win by 13 runs – Percival (36) was bowled by Smart in the final over.
