Morpeth at double in busy weekend

It was a busy weekend for local cricketers with back to back games in the Northumberland & Tyneside League.

Morpeth 1sts had a double success over Bedlington. On Saturday they won by nine wickets with James Sander 61 not out as Morpeth hit 132-1 in reply to the visitors’ 131 all out.

On Sunday it was a little closer, winning by only five runs. Paul Johnston hit 80 and John Windows 61 as Morpeth put on 242-5, with Bedlington getting close at 237-8 with majid Ansari on 83.

Ponteland went down to two defeats against Tillside 1sts. On Saturday they lost by eight wickets, after making 134 all out, Tillside posting 138-2. On Sunday Tillside won by 38 runs, the home side making 183 (Sean Wales 59, David Waters 4-34) before Pont posted 145 all out (Haq Fazal 85, Alan Hindmarsh 5-24).

Blagdon 1sts beat GEMs by 49 runs on Saturday. Mark Foster hit 69 and Cameron Hedgely 53 not out in their total of 211. GEMs were 162 in reply with David Gibson 3-35 and Matthew Senior 3-20.

Blagson lost by 53 runs to GEMs on Sunday. Gems were 189 all out (Omer Hussain 78, David Gibson 4-41), with Blagdon 136 in reply.

Stobswood (138) lostby three wickets to Clara Vale on Saturday, and on Sunday they lost by five wickets (196 to 199-5).

Kirkley 1sts (65) beat Warkworth 2nds by 10 wickets on Saturday, Sunday was cancelled.

Ulgham 1sts (207 - Colin Tait 100) lost by four wickets to Seaton Burn on Saturday and on Sunday they lost by 96 runs (140 chasing 236-3).
