Percy Main (100 all out) v Morpeth (155 all out)
Northumberland & Tyneside Senior League, Division A1
A FANTASTIC bowling performance allowed Morpeth to pull clear of the relegation places on Saturday.
The visitors batted first and looked in good shape thanks to a good opening partnership between Jonny Craigs and Jonny Foster.
But once Craigs was trapped LBW for 16, the wheels came off as wickets fell at regular intervals. Thankfully for Morpeth, Foster held his nerve and played some excellent shots as he reached his half-century.
He found some useful support from the lower order and the contributions of Paul Elliott (10), Tom Wilkinson (10) and last man Benjamin Jones (14) turned out to be crucial.
The away side were bowled out for 155, with Foster finishing 77 not out.
An amazing start by Craigs and Ray Cooper (3-35) meant Percy Main were seven down for less than a dozen runs and a crushing victory was in sight.
The home side’s last four batsmen made a fight of it, but they were eventually all out for 100 – with Craigs (7-19) taking the remaining wickets.
The victory moved Morpeth up to sixth in the table and 26 points clear of the bottom two.
