Residents are being asked to nominate sporting stars, successful teams, young prospects and club stalwarts for this year’s Morpeth Sports Awards.
The event, which used to cover the former borough of Castle Morpeth, fell by the wayside after the re-organisation of local government seven years ago, but made its return in 2013.
Organised by the Morpeth Sports Council, the ceremony will take place on Thursday, May 25, at Morpeth Rugby Club, from 7.30pm.
The categories are: Junior Male (U18), Junior Female (U18), Junior Team Award (U13), Team Award (U18), Senior Female, Senior Male, Sportability Award, Team Award, Senior Masters Male, Senior Masters Female and Service to Sport.
As well as the Morpeth town area, people can be nominated by a family member, club official or member of the public if they live, or are members of sports clubs, within the parishes of Hepscott, Longhirst, Longhorsley, Mitford, Pegswood, Stannington, Ulgham and Whalton.
The closing date for receipt of nominations and ticket applications is Thursday, April 20.
Nomination forms are available from Morpeth Town Hall, the Riverside Leisure Centre, Morpeth Library and The Chantry (Morpeth Tourist Information Centre).
At last year’s event, covering 2015, Morpeth Rugby Club stalwart John Stafford received The Mayor’s Trophy for Sportsperson of the Year. Some of the trophy winners are pictured on the right.
