A MORPETH Harriers runner has completed the first part of her testing charity challenge.

Claire Bruce completed the 69-mile ultra race called The Wall over two days in a time of 13 hours and 45 minutes.

She was 44th overall out of over 250 entrants, finishing as fourth female.

The race followed a route from Carlisle Castle through Hadrian’s Wall country and finished by running over the Millennium Bridge to cross the line outside The Baltic gallery on Gateshead’s Quayside.

Mrs Bruce had knee problems in the weeks leading up to the event, but thanks to the help of physio Kate Wilson from Dene House Farm in Longframlington, she was patched up and was able to compete successfully.

The Espley resident’s main challenge to raise money for St Oswald’s Hospice is attempting to climb Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, which at 5,895m is the highest peak in Africa.
