ADULTS and children are being encouraged to try table tennis at a new venue in Northumberland.
Mitford Table Tennis Club has started some sessions on a trial basis at the village’s Community Centre on most Wednesday nights.
It came about after the Cramlington club, which has four-star Premier status, received National Lottery funding to help it get more people in the county to play the sport.
Jane Cockburn, who is organising the latest round of training and games, said: “A coach from Cramlington set up some tables at Mitford last year, but he had family commitments which meant the sessions could no longer continue.
“A couple of months ago, I got in touch with Cramlington and said I could start the club up again.
“We spread the word and put out flyers and so far more people are turning up each time.
“But it would be great if we had a few more who regularly came along, particularly as we will have to make a decision about whether or not to keep it going at the end of the trial period.
“The emphasis is on having fun, but if we find some talented players, we can look to help them develop their skills.
“One of the Cramlington coaching staff attended our first session and hopefully he will return at a later date.”
The next session will take place on Wednesday between 7pm and 9pm. It costs £3 for adults and £2 for children.
