A MORPETH youngster has raised £100 for Cancer Research UK after competing in his first ever Junior Great North Run.

Twelve-year-old Rioghan Bruce, who lives in Merley Gate, shrugged off his inexperience to run the 4km long course around the Newcastle/Gateshead Quayside in just under 22 minutes.

He said: “I’m so pleased to have done the race and really look forward to having another go next year — hopefully in a faster time.

“I’m also pleased to be able support cancer research because this has affected my close family. I hope that the money will help towards making other people better.”
