Second stay at the top

Ponteland II (263-5) v Seaton Burn II (60 all out) Northumberland & Tyneside Senior League, Division B2

PONTELAND Seconds maintained their lead at the top of the table with a crushing 203-run victory.

The home side batted first and got off to a great start thanks to a big partnership between Richard Moller and Matty Bell. Moller was bowled for 37 but Parag Chauhan kept the scoreboard ticking with some decent attacking shots.

He looked set for a half century until he was bowled for 48. Bell had played magnificently and he scored a Ponteland best of 77.

Jonathan Varley hit a six in his innings of 28 and James Ottaway (13), David Waters (15 not out) and Chris Morgan (15 not out) all reached double figures as Ponteland finished their 45 overs on 263 for five.

The bowlers quickly tore into the Seaton Burn batsmen and wickets fell at regular intervals. Irving-Carr (14) was the only visiting batsman to reach double figures.

Duncan McGregor (four for 16) and Jack Schofield (four for 11) both put in excellent bowling performances. Wayne Denham also picked up a wicket.
