Ulgham II (142 all out) v Civil Service II (161-9) Northumberland Cricket League, Division B2
ULGHAM Seconds let a good position slip as they fell to a 19-run defeat.
Civil Service batted first and were soon struggling as David Loxham and Mark Barrass took early wickets.
Barrass continued his good spell by dismissing another two batsmen and a Michael Brown delivery to Sawan was edged to wicketkeeper Steve Pace.
But the visitors had one top order batsman who made a decent score in the shape of McGuinness. He was out for 34 – caught Peter Wilson bowled Jeff Thomson.
Brown took two further wickets but Foulds made what turned out to be a crucial knock of 22 not out for Civil Service as they finished their 40 overs on 161 for nine.
The Ulgham innings started well, but none of the top five could go on to make a big score.
Openers David Gowland and Pace were dismissed for 15 and 18 respectively and Rachel Gordon (10), Wilson (21) and Brown (14) were all run out.
Barrass gave the home side hope with some good attacking shots and he found decent support from Thomson.
But when Barrass was bowled for 37, Civil Service just needed one more wicket and it soon came when Chris Cowe was caught for three.
Ulgham were all out for 142 with Thomson left on 10 not out.
Ulgham’s first team did not play on Saturday as their match against Monkseaton was abandoned without a ball being bowled. This Saturday, the league leaders entertain Kirkley who are currently in second place 10 points behind. The game starts at 1pm.
