Morpeth-based SGR Racing and rider Jake Bayford made the step up to the British Supersport Evo Championship at the team’s home round at Knockhill.

Bayford made an excellent start and improved his lap time every session he went out on the circuit.

He qualified in 24th position for the sprint race on the Saturday and made a good start.

He again improved on his lap times and came home in the top 20 overall and 12th in the Evo class.

The team made a few changes to the bike overnight and Bayford went over a second quicker than he had ever been in warm-up.

He lined up on the grid for the feature race in 22nd place and again made a good start.

Unfortunately he made a slight error at Clarke Curve on the second lap which lost him a little time, but then the safety car was deployed.

This enabled him to close up once again on the riders in front and he finished the race once again in the top 20 – in 18th place and 9th Evo bike home.

Bayford and the team were delighted with the results and came away with a solid 11 points in the Evo championship.

The team thanked everyone who helped us get them to this stage including Roy Scott, Jason Piggott from Painted to Perfection, AMT Business, the Deeping cake company, Ray and Roz and I move bikes.

The team are now looking forward to getting out at the next round at Brands Hatch.
