A young skier’s excellent form continued as she won two medals at an event in Scotland.
Amy Stokoe from Widdrington Village recently achieved two podium finishes in the Gordon’s Ski Race at The Lecht, Scotland.
The nine-year-old was second in the giant slalom (Under-10 females category) and on the second day of the weekend competition, she was third in the Combi Under-10 females (giant slalom and slalom) event. She said she was not nervous even though it was her first time racing on snow in Scotland. The snow became sticky as the weather became milder on the Sunday, but Amy coped well with the changing conditions.
Mum Helen Maltby said: “It was a great experience for Amy and good preparation for racing in Bormio, Italy, in the English Championships.”
The family are members of the Weardale Ski Club and Amy also skis at the artificial ski-slope in Silksworth, Sunderland. She came first in the Under-10 female category at Rossendale in Lancashire in its 2014 Summer Ski League.
