Two members of Morpeth Amateur Swimming Club, Lauren Howe and Hannah Seymour, travelled to the Royal Commonwealth Pool in Edinburgh to compete in the Scottish National Short Course Championships .

This rounded off an extremely successful competitive year for the club, and an excellent start for head coach Kay Howe, who has been in position since the summer.

For Lauren, 15, this was her first national competition representing Morpeth.

While the completion was an open, meaning the swimmers were competing against competitors of all ages, including Olympic and Commonwealth medallists, Lauren and Hannah, 14, didn’t let that faze them, and both swam some extremely fast times.

Lauren competed in the 50m backstroke and recorded an excellent personal best of 31:95 seconds. Hannah swam a time of 30:98 seconds in the same event.

On the second day of competition, Hannah swam in the 100m butterfly, recording a time of 1:09:20.

On the final day of competition, Hannah swam in the morning heats of the 100m backstroke, registering an excellent personal best of 1:05:71.

The swimming club hopes to make this an annual fixture in its event calendar.
