Morpeth Tennis Club, based at Longhirst Hall, are looking to take advantage of the post Wimbledon surge of interest in the sport.

The club boasts six floodlit, artificial grass courts, three of which are brand new having been installed in May this year.

And newly appointed Head Coach Grant Watson is running a summer holiday programme for juniors.

The coaching will take place from 9am to 1pm on Thursdays, July 23 and 30, and on August 6, 13, 20 and 27, costing £18 per day.

Sixty-minute sessions on the same Thursday afternoons, from 1.30pm to 2.30pm, age four to seven; 2.30pm to 3.30pm, age eight to 11; and 3.30pm to 4.30pm, age 12 to 16, at £5 per hour.

Booking is essential and membership is not required. For details contact the head coach on 07921 078198 or email

Meanwhile the club has announced that three courts will be available to the public between 2pm and 5pm on Saturdays and Sundays with the first three sessions free.

The only exception might be if the club are running an event which requires all six courts at the weekend, such as open days or a tournament. Other times can be made available if the top courts are not in use.

Access to the courts requires a key which can be provided by Secretary Paul Beasley, on 01670 515125 or email

After the first three sessions, the cost for adults (from 18) will be £3 per person per session and juniors will be £1.50 per person per session.

Annual junior membership is £25 and £20 for a sibling and this allows play at any time subject to matches and other fixed playing times for members.
