Unbeaten run goes on for Morpeth thirds

North Shields III v Morpeth III

Morpeth III travelled to North Shields looking to continue their unbeaten run, and finalise preparations for the new season.

Morpeth started the game well, winning the toss and quickly pushing North Shields back into their own half. Morpeth’s press meant that Shields were barely able to clear their lines and it was not long after, that a pass by G Minty cut the midfield in half, allowing M Renwick a chance to slot the ball into the bottom right corner of the goal from the edge of the D leaving the Shields goalkeeper in no man’s land (0-1).

Despite the string of short corners Morpeth had, their second goal again came from open play, this time a young C Greenbeck on his debut, feeding the experienced S Gilmore who was able to tuck the ball into the corner the net, to give Morpeth some breathing space (0-2).

In the second half, the pressure continued and as the assault on the Shields’ D found them defending deeper and deeper, it was not long after that a player was sin-binned for a series of frantic stick tackles.

Unfortunately Morpeth were still unable to score even with the extra man, but eventually a snaking run by I Foster put the game beyond doubt, and the final score was 3-0.

Newcastle v Morpeth IV

Morpeth IV came up against a youthful Newcastle side in their first and only friendly before the league season starts in earnest next week.

Newcastle took a 3-1 lead at the half-time break and went on to win 8-5. Morpeth’s M Bott netted four times while the other was scored by Bradley Swann.
