THERE was disappointment for both Morpeth and Ponteland Cricket Clubs on Saturday.
The First XI teams for both clubs did not play because the grounds were unfit and the second string sides were both defeated.
Morpeth Seconds batted first away to Lanchester II in their Northumberland & Tyneside Senior League, Division B1 fixture and kept losing wickets at regular intervals.
Only Paul Wonders (22), Christian Evans (19) and Stephen Cowell (11) reached double figures as the visitors were all out for just 92.
Wonders did some damage with the ball as he had both openers caught, but they had both made double figures and a partnership between Taylor (26) and Murray (17) took Lanchester to the brink of victory.
Taylor was run out, there was another wicket for Wonders and Kurran Dhugga bowled Murray, but the home side comfortably reached their target to win by five wickets.
Ponteland Seconds were at home to Shotley Bridge in the same division. They produced a woeful batting performance to be shot out for 42 with six ducks – 20 of the runs coming from John Gardner and 10 from James Ealey.
The away side eased home comfortably by six wickets despite a tight spell of three for 11 off seven overs by Gardner.
