Morpeth IV 2 Tynedale II 1 Club Development League North
Morpeth Hockey Club’s fourth team avenged their defeat by Tynedale seconds on the opening game of the season on a cold and blustery day at Longhirst.
The game was a tight affair, but the hosts looked sharp going forward. The first real opportunity fell to Martyn Bott, who seemed to do all the hard work by taking the ball around the keeper, however he failed to score from the tight angle.
Morpeth kept pressing for an opening and that duly came when Dan James struck a shot from the top of the ‘D’. The ball flashed past the unsighted keeper and the home side were 1-0 up going into the half time break.
They continued to be the more dangerous team in the opening stages of the second half and soon went two goals ahead following a great team move.
Adam Craggs picked the ball up in the centre of midfield and found James sprinting up the right wing. His cross was met by Bott, who swept the ball past the keeper into the corner of the net.
Morpeth then switched off and allowed Tynedale to grab a goal back.
This would normally mean a nervy finish to the game, but the hosts did not sit back and they had several more chances before full time. These included James hitting the post and Alex Ingram forcing a good save from the Tynedale keeper.
