A YOUNG Morpeth tennis ace added to her trophy collection by winning a national competition.
Elena Baughman-Saunders was successful in the Beechwood Open Mini Orange tournament in Warwickshire.
The nine-year-old won all but one of her matches, where sets were decided by the first to seven points or carrying on until one player opens up a margin of two or more points.
And by getting a good haul of points in the game she lost (5-7, 14-12, 3-7) she was able to take the title on countback.
The Morpeth First School pupil started playing at the age of five and takes part in training sessions at the Northumberland high performance centre in Newcastle.
Mum Alison Saunders said: “It was a tough competition, so Elena was delighted that she ended up winning the event.
“She really loves playing tennis and sometimes it’s hard work getting her off the court at the end of a session.”
