Youngsters battle for the county

A TEAM of promising young golfers from Northumberland is chasing northern bragging rights this weekend.

The 20-strong line-up finished as the leading players on this year’s Northumberland Junior Tour.

Now they are to face teams from the equivalent competitions in Cumbria and Durham in the first three-way showdown between the counties.

The final event is being staged at Ramside Hall Golf Club in Durham on Sunday.

The full squad is: Luke Denny, Marc Friar, Calum Macdonald, Emma Allison, Naimh Lendrum, Bertie Hinson, Andrew Shipley, Alex Donaghy, Imogen Horrocks, Sarah Fay, Kiri-Mae Lamb, Jamie Hodge, Elliot Hair, Archie Castle, Olivia Rodda, Katie Thirlwell, Alexandra Reeman, Morgan Bulman, George Bonner and Emily Forman.

“The Northumberland Junior Tour continues to grow and develop,” said Lisa Ferrie, county development officer for the Northumberland County Golf Partnership.

“It is an ideal environment in which young players can develop their skills and widen their experience. The chance for the top 20 to play in this final will help them continue their development.

“All those who took part in the Junior Tour and their families can come along to support the team and compete in the chipping and putting competitions being held on the day.”
