Morpeth come out on top in game full of tries

Ponteland RFC U15s 27 Morpeth RFC U15s 40

AN entertaining game saw Morpeth U15s banish the disappointment of being knocked out of the Northumberland Cup by beating local rivals Ponteland.

In a see–saw, enthralling battle, the visitors took advantage of the blustery conditions to dominate most of the match despite going behind to an early try.

A brace of scores from scrum-half Will Allen was the highlight of a performance which, although good in parts, still saw the Morpeth youngsters suffering from some poor tackling and lack of physicality.

Further tries from flying winger George Devereux-Tinley and prop Sam Fieldsen kept the scoreboard ticking over in the away side’s favour, but a lack of concentration and indiscipline saw them slacken-off in the final phases to concede some sloppy tries to a spirited Pont side.

Conversions from Jake Stephenson (two) and Sam Eyres (three) added to the Morpeth scoreboard.
