Morpeth 53 Stockton 0 Durham and Northumberland Division One

Morpeth increased the pressure on the league leaders Guisborough with yet another bonus-point win against a Stockton side that beat Morpeth on their own patch earlier in the season.

This was a good win for Morpeth where both backs and forwards combined to maximum effect on a grey overcast Mitford Road afternoon. Indeed, the match was really all over after approximately 15 minutes when the home side were rampant.

Tries came at frequent intervals, with winger Turner racing over for a brace of tries. Denton and Thornton joined in the spree by adding tries of their own. Brown also kicked over two conversions.

The first half ended when skipper Hill followed with yet another score of his own for the productive hooker.

This made the half-time score 29-0.

Hill scored again shortly after the interval with Brown again adding the extras.

Morpeth did not let up and further forward domination allowed last year’s captain Morrison to control the ball at the base of an attacking scrum for yet another try.

Then skipper Hill ebulliently went over for his score, rumbling over from close range.

The final score was afforded to the backs when Lynn scored after 72 minutes, with Brown again adding the extras to make the final score 53-0.

This means it is very much all to play for as we enter the last five games of the season, with Morpeth now equal on points with leaders Guisborough remaining on top on points difference.

The Mitford Road side make the trip to Sunderland for another difficult encounter in their next league outing this Saturday.
