MORPETH RFC Under 13s were crowned county champions for the fourth year in succession after another successful campaign.
It culminated in a resounding 52-5 victory over Tynedale in the final, which was held at Gosforth RFC’s Druid Park.
The Mitford Road youngsters dominated throughout the match and scored eight tries and six conversions while Tynedale managed a solitary consolation try having been starved of possession by a rampant Morpeth.
Earlier rounds of the competition saw them beat Ponteland in the semi-final by 53-5 and in the first round they overcame a strong Northern side 36-17.
Coach Chris O’Hara said: “The cup final win on the last day of the season is just reward for a squad who have worked hard on their individual technical skills and have improved their collective performances to enable them to stay ahead of the other teams, both within Northumberland and further afield.”
Meanwhile, after tough competitions at both Harrogate and Tynedale, the Morpeth U11s returned to winning ways by beating Northern by three tries to nil in the final at the Alnwick Festival.
There were some difficult games along the way, particularly against a stubborn Alnwick side in the semi-final, but some excellent work in defence saw the team through.
