Morpeth 31-0 Bradford & Bingley
Morpeth maintained their excellent league form with yet another home win against a strong BB outfit on Saturday.
The first 10 minutes produced a stalemate before Morpeth took the lead with a very good try. From a good lineout, first scrum half Jack Elliott made the initial break, getting in behind the defence, before excellent handling from Phillips and Ben Hornby saw Tait finishing off with Hornby adding the conversion.
Handling wasn’t easy due to the conditions, and with the BB defence committed, Morpeth had to wait until a series of attacking scrums, with Moody and Hill dominant, before Ward was able to beat the last man wide out to score another good try, which Hornby again converted, making it 14-0 at half-time.
The second half initially became stagnated, with another Hornby penalty being the only score for 17-0.
Morpeth then turned the screw going into the last quarter, helped by a man advantage when a high tackle on Elliott, and second yellow card, gave the home side numerical advantage.
An excellent attacking line out saw Blake Robinson bury over, then right wing Sam Hornby, a threat throughout, got on the end of an initial break by Ward to score a well-deserved try, converted by his brother Ben.
This was another excellent result on a great club day, with thanks especially to Dick Dungait and Paul Thornton for yet again organising a successful past players’ lunch. Man-of-the-match was Sam Hornby.
